I think when new players hit the HUD/Extractor vendor, a Notecard should be sent with all the relevant infos for a starter. That, or a icon/menu on HUD would do the thing too.
The Hud and Extractor objects are actually pretty intuitive to use, if one cares to try push the buttons and explore.
But other things should go on a Notecard, things like, for exemple but not only:
- use of Alien Tree (requirements, benefits, location); - use of Potions (about drops, about pro gear, about buy and sell); - about meteors (drops, rates on pro, etc); - code of conduct (or TOS if you wish), this is really important when hosting a social game of sucess in such a jungle as Second Life. For now community is all nice, wait until new waves of people arrive and act in anarchy;
Some of the info that would go in such a notecard would yes, be a repeat from what there is on the site, but the key thinking here is making it really acessible (quickly searching Alienum Help on Inventory would give it access to the info). It speeds the learning curve by saving the players the time to be on a site when they want to be in-world. Dedicated players will always go to the site anyways.
